It's every traveler's nightmare: You're all set to board your flight when at the last minute the airline won't let you on the plane. You've been bumped. It's one of the single most unfair, infuriating things to happen.
If you've ever been bumped, or stranded on the tarmac or bereft of your luggage, you still have rights as a consumer and you may be entitled to serious monetary compensation. In many cases, an airline's customer service policy will find a way to reimburse you; in other cases they're compelled by law.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has a very helpful and comprehensive guide to your air travel rights. Click here to view it.
If your airline mistreats you, you can also file a complaint with the Aviation Consumer Protection Division. Click here to file a complaint.
