How much do you post on Facebook? Do you share photos of your grandchildren, vacations or even what you're having for dinner?
Oversharing is easy to do and if you're not careful, you could easily post something that could send a signal to scammers, hackers, even burglars that you're ready to get got. Even if you make sure your Facebook privacy settings are really secure, the information might still get out.
That's why it's always a good idea to make sure your security settings are up to date on the social media site. Facebook often changes its policy, so these are settings you want to check frequently.
On top of the Privacy Dinosaur, Facebook now lets you also perform a Security Checkup. From within this checkup, you'll be instructed to check out three different areas:
1. Log Out of Unused Apps. This will encourage you to sign out of your Facebook account on devices you haven't used in a while. If you're logged in on your sister's computer on the other side of the country, for example, now's the time to log out.
2. Get Login Alerts. This is a great way to know if someone ever takes over your account. Simply enter your email address and you'll be notified when someone logs onto your account from an "unrecognized device."
3. Protect Your Password. If your password isn't a strong one, now's the perfect time to beef it up. You'll see a link that says, "Change Password." Click on that to change it and be sure to follow the tips Facebook provides.
What are you waiting for? Head over to Facebook's Security Checkup now and make sure your account is good to go.
