Just about everything is available online these days. There are several different delivery services that can bring you everything you need, from food, beer and wine to everyday household items, almost guaranteeing you never have to leave your house ever again.

Here's one more to add to that list: eye exams. Long gone are the days of finding an eye doctor, calling in to make an appointment, then finding time to take off of work for said appointment.

With the Opternative site, you can take an eye exam from the comfort of your couch, have it examined by a board-certified ophthalmologist and get your prescription within 24 hours.

The visual acuity test is free to take, however if you want it to be reviewed by a professional, it will cost you $40. To take the test, you will need to answer a series of questions to make sure you are eligible. Eligibility requirements include no history of diabetes, hypertension, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachment, brain injuries, neurological issues; symptoms of acute eye pain; or flashes and floaters in your eyes. You also must be between the ages of 18 and 40.

The test only takes about 5 minutes and will require a smartphone and a computer. The test will be on your computer screen and the smartphone will act as your remote and will log your answers. You will need to enter your phone number to be provided with a link to use on your smartphone. It's ok, it's safe.

Don't worry if this all sounds confusing. There are guides to help you along your way and will detail every step you need to take.

Next, you'll take step 10 feet away from your screen and complete the exam. When you're all done, you'll see your score and a recommendation from doctors with what to do next. If you need one, you can get your prescription in 24 hours.

If you're skeptical that a home exam might not be as good as the real thing, science is on Opternative's side. Studies have shown that the at-home exam is just as accurate as an exam performed by an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
