Desktop Support and System Administrator

Do you have a passion for maintaining and improving on-premises cloud infrastructures that service a national footprint? Are you ready to challenge your skills to the next level? This is a rare and exciting opportunity to be part of a national radio, television and podcast network. We are seeking an experienced Chef, Linux, and Xen deployment and configuration guru to join our team. This position involves creating Chef cookbooks, upgrading Debian and Windows servers, deploying new virtual machines, desktop support, and monitoring for problems. The ideal candidate has at least 2 – 3 years of experience working on similar projects or has successfully completed a BS in Computer Science.

A day in the life

Although each day brings varied and exciting challenges, here is what a typical day may look like. Employees submit tickets to our internal OTRS system for many different types of requests such as, permission requests, printer support, toner replacement, training for productivity software, addressing failed workstations, software or equipment, or installing software. As Desktop Support, you will need to triage tickets and prioritize tasks as well as directly intervening with the employees to get them back in action as quickly as possible while keeping management informed of any developing situations or problems. After tickets have been closed, you will perform routine and regular maintenance that keep the infrastructure secure and functional. These duties span from running reports on disk space utilization to tracking software license renewals, installing patches and updates, as well as testing backups or configuring new backups.
