WestStar Multimedia is looking for personable and talented candidates to facilitate the complexities and difficulties of workstation usage for technical and non-technical employees. This position requires a conscientious individual to be responsible for the day to day operations required to manage a modest-sized infrastructure utilizing both Windows and Mac workstations. This includes frequent, routine maintenance of workstations, printers, storage arrays, network equipment, and servers. Ideal candidates will need to be able to diagnose and resolve problems with these technologies effectively and quickly while keeping the bottom line in sight and ensuring that every employee is heard, understood, and cared for with a high level of professionalism.

It broadcasts every weekend on more than 400 radio stations in the U.S. and internationally on the American Forces radio Network. The show also streams live in HD video to paying subscribers and soon, to a national TV audience. Kim's weekly column appears nationally in USA Today, FoxNews and in more than 100 daily newspapers. We have a constantly updated website and send more than 12 million email newsletters each week. We also produce books, consumer buying guides, audio podcasts and videos.
A day in the life
Although each day brings varied and exciting challenges, here is what a typical day may look like. Employees submit tickets to our internal OTRS system for many different types of requests such as, permission requests, printer support, toner replacement, training for productivity software, addressing failed workstations, software or equipment, or installing software. As Desktop Support, you will need to triage tickets and prioritize tasks as well as directly intervening with the employees to get them back in action as quickly as possible while keeping management informed of any developing situations or problems. After tickets have been closed, you will perform routine and regular maintenance that keep the infrastructure secure and functional. These duties span from running reports on disk space utilization to tracking software license renewals, installing patches and updates, as well as testing backups or configuring new backups.
Provide computer desktop, laptop, workstation, storage array, cloud, backup, and phone support for in-house and remote employees in accordance with established policies and procedures by identifying and researching problems with clients and vendors
Maintain, analyze, and fix computer systems, hardware, printers, and computer peripherals
Track equipment inventory and collaborate on potential purchases and repairs
Updates for: Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems as well as Productivity Software
Troubleshooting & maintenance of workstations, printers, storage arrays, tape libraries, cloud backups, and servers
License acquisition, tracking, renewals
Granting access to systems and services
Backing up/restoring digital assets as well as testing restores
Log file maintenance
Tracking SSL certificate expiry and obtaining renewals
Keeping daily activity and event logs
SPAM firewall management
Service and software contract renewals
Deploying new employees/email addresses, revoking said accounts/employee access
Deploying new workstations
Replacing/repairing failed equipment
Training non-technical users about software and policies
Assisting non-technical users with software, settings, and accidental misconfigurations
Skills or Attributes Required
Ability to navigate and configure: Windows Server 2012 & 2016; Linux 3.4.*; OSX 10.6+
Microsoft Active Directory management
File ACL’s for Windows NTFS and Linux ext4
Creating and maintaining:
Security minded in all activities
Ability to plan, schedule, and follow-up on tickets
Ability to communicate precisely and efficiently
A “Can-do” attitude and very close attention to detail
A love for helping people
Patience and understanding as well as good "bed-side manner" when working with other employees
Broadcast and television experience is a plus.
