Do you know about the "Shazam" app? It's used by hundreds of millions of people each month to instantly identify music that's playing nearby. Pretty amazing!
If you're an art enthusiast, I have great news. Now, there's an app similar to Shazam that not only identifies a piece of art but tells you its background story as well. It's like having a docent with you at all times, right on your smartphone.
I'm talking about an augmented reality (AR) art-identifying app called SMARTIFY.
This is the perfect app for those who love visiting art galleries and want to know more about the stores behind the artwork. You can also use the app to join thousands of other people who have used SMARTIFY in museums and galleries across the globe to discover and share art.
It's super easy to use. Simply hold your phone up to a piece of art to instantly identify it. Then, scroll down to access audio commentary and additional information. Here's a brief video demonstrating how it works:
Note: If you're reading this article using the Komando.com app, click here to watch the demonstration video.
You can create a profile on SMARTIFY to keep art saved for you. Just visit the Profile page to sign in and edit settings.
SMARTIFY partners with museums and galleries to protect artist copyright and can only be used in specific venues. Currently, there are more than 30 museums around the world where you can use the app and more will be added later. To find out where you can use the app, hit Explore or visit the SMARTIFY website and click on Venues.
The app is free and available for both Apple and Android devices. To download SMARTIFY, click on the link that we've provided below inside the blue boxes.
