All the way back in 1933, a man named Alfred Butts invented what would become one of America's most popular games of all time: Scrabble. But it wasn't an overnight success. In the 1940s, he worked on selling his tile word game, but actually lost money in the process!
Since then, Scrabble has exploded. I'm willing to bet that almost everyone has played a game or two in their lifetime. Not only is it a fun way to interact with your friends and family, but it's educational, too. In fact, there are even national Scrabble tournaments held in a different major city every year - this year's is in Reno, Nevada, in August. There's even an official Scrabble dictionary!
With that being said, I think it's safe to say that nothing beats a good, old-fashioned game of Scrabble ... except for maybe this, fun, new Scrabble-esque game.
Upwords game lets you create words out of letter tiles and gain points as you put them on the board, but the twist is that you can place one letter on top of another letter, completely changing the word and creating a whole new game! For example, "hook" could become "book" and "glean" could become "clean" with just one tile, placed on top of another letter.
Better yet, this fun app lets you play against friends and family, or you can play against a random opponent, or the computer for hours upon hours of fun.
You can score points for each letter and every tile places and the more words you create, the higher your stack and the higher your score!
