Now that the cameras on our smartphones have gotten a lot better, people are taking more photos than ever. And with social media sites like Instagram, it's also easier than ever to share those photos with the world. But it's not as simple as snapping a picture and posting it online. Now there are several image editing apps that can help you perfect your photos before you hit "share."

Recently, we shared a photo editing app called PicsArt Studios that helps you turn your photos into works of art. But if you're looking for an app that is designed to simply help you perfect your photos, then there's another app we'd recommend.

PhotoDirector is an impressive photo editing app that's perfect for anyone who takes a lot of selfies or pictures of pets, friends and family. It comes with the basic features, such as: cropping, rotating, saturation and tone adjustments, overlays, filters, etc. But it also comes with some special features that are essentials for editing photos.

Although airbrushing gets a bad rap sometimes, it's still an extremely desirable feature for editing portraits. In PhotoDirector, this feature is called the "Skin Tool." You can use it to smooth out skin by brushing over the area with your finger. While using the tool, PhotoDirector generates a separate window that shows a zoomed view, so you can see exactly which portion of the photo you're adjusting.

Beyond that, PhotoDirector has tools to remove red-eye and unwanted objects from photos. Just select the object you'd like to remove - whether it's a telephone pole, tree or even a stranger who's in the background of your family photo - then use the "Removal" tool to take them out. The tool is pretty effective, although you may need to do some additional editing to blend the area in with the rest of the photo.

There are also fun features in PhotoDirector that allow you to make collages and even add stickers, frames, lens flares and text. And, when you're done editing your photos, the app connects with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr and more, so it's always easy to share.

The only downside is that there are ads included in the free version of the app. However, there is a premium version that is also available. This version allows you to use the app ad-free, and save your images at a higher resolution. The premium version costs $4.99.
