When you're reading for pleasure, sometimes poems are the perfect choice. They're often brief, and make their point in a few select words, sentences and paragraphs.
You can find poems that fit your mood, no matter what it is. If you're feeling romantic, read a poem by Lord Byron or John Keats. If you're feeling political, read William Butler Yates. If you need a laugh, try Mark Twain or Ogden Nash.
Classic poems and new poems are available right from you smartphone, whenever you want to read them. The Poetry Foundation, whose mission is to make poetry accessible to everyone, has an app.
Poetry from the Poetry Foundation is an app for iOS and Android devices. You can search for poems by category, such as nature or spirituality. Scroll through poems to read.
Or, search for memorable lines from poems, or for poems by specific authors. Or, better yet, just look around for new poems you've never read by authors you've never heard of.
The Poetry app can also be used to teach people about poetry. (See video.) Or, share poems with your kids or grandchildren.
