If you've ever thought about striking out on your own, to be your own boss, you've got a lot of company. The Internet has opened up countless opportunities for people to work for themselves.
If you're a graphic artist, a software developer, an interior decorator, a nanny, a writer, a real estate agent, or you name it, you can work for yourself from home. In fact, 34% of the United States workforce does some freelance work, whether it's full-time or to earn extra money, according to the Freelancers Union. That's 53 million people who contribute $715 billion to the economy.
Yet, despite the ease of looking for jobs online, guess what freelancers say is one of the worst parts about freelancing? Finding work. (That, and the uncertainty of how much money they'll earn.)
For example, if you're a graphic artist, you can spend a few days each month looking for jobs online. You can spend days calling advertising agencies, marketing firms, websites, newspapers and other companies that might need your services.
The Upwork Messenger app is meant to make that process a whole lot easier. In this case, easier also means freeing up time to earn more money.
