Do you have a food allergy? Are you avoiding products with gluten because of Celiac disease? Maybe you're among the growing number of people who wants to avoid genetically modified foods. Perhaps you just want to avoid additives like high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners or MSG.
This is just the app you need if you fall into any of the above categories. It's called ipiit, The Food Ambassador, and it can make your grocery shopping so much simpler. You're familiar with the barcode scanners at cash registers, right? This puts a smart scanner on your smartphone to assist with your food choices.
You tell ipiit your personal preferences regarding what you need to avoid in your food. Simply tell it if you're avoiding things like corn syrup, eggs, lactose, milk proteins, MSG, or genetically modified (GMO) foods (and if your preference isn't in the app, you can tell ipiit's developers what they should add).
Then when you're at the grocery store, use your smartphone's camera to scan the barcode, and presto! ipiit lets you know if it's "okay for you" or "not okay for you."
You can also use ipiit to compare two different products' nutrition against each other. That helps you accomplish things like lowering your sodium intake by making small changes.
If you're on a restrictive diet, this is the app for you. Have you tried it? Let us know what you think about this app in the comments below.
