With the pandemic still raging, it can often be difficult to check up on the elderly. And it can be frustrating when you can’t physically be there to help your loved ones with basic tasks or activities.

Amazon has made the Alexa Together service available for everyone. Read on to see how the service can help bring peace of mind.

Here’s the backstory

The existing Alexa Care Hub has been given a healthy shot in the arm, with Amazon expanding the service when it comes to caring for the elderly. The new Alexa Together subscription service is $19.99 per month or $199 for a year.

The main attraction of Alexa Together is that you can remotely check up on your loved ones and even help them with certain things. There are also several emergency functions built into the service. So if an accident happens, help will be on the way.

Here are some features included in Alexa Together:

  • Customized alerts. You can set up the service so that you are notified when your loved one uses Alexa for the first time during the day. It will also inform you if Alexa hasn’t been used by a predetermined time.
  • Urgent Response. If something goes wrong, the 24/7 Urgent Response function allows your loved one to contact trained professionals through hands-free access to get assistance.
  • Remote Assist. This feature allows you to help your loved one no matter where you are. You can set up music services, manage shopping lists, or set reminders.
  • Fall detection. If a compatible device detects a fall, Alexa calls Urgent Response and notifies emergency contacts.

How to get Alexa Together

Currently, only one person can be listed as the support user. But Amazon said that more users could be added sometime next year. That will allow for more than one person to care for and support a loved one.

To sign up for the Alexa Together plan, you only need to buy one subscription. You can sign up here on the Alexa Together page and start a free 6-month trial.

Devices supported include Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, or Echo Show. If both you and your loved one have an Echo Show, you can enable video chat. This Echo Show 8 would be a perfect option.
