Taking care of elderly parents is a big responsibility. Staying on top of this situation can be stressful. But well-placed technology can make it a lot easier.
Staying in touch
Sometimes you just need to be available if your parents need help. It’s a little like being a doctor on call. With the right tools, staying in touch is easy.
You could start with cell phones. There are phones marketed directly to seniors. They offer a simple interface and lots of help. These include the Jitterbug ($147) and ClarityLife ($185).
A Webcam is also helpful. It’ll allow you to video chat with your parents. That’s great if they have questions that are hard to answer verbally. Say, for instance, they’re struggling with complicated medical instructions. They may just be able to hold those instructions up to the camera.
Video chatting is also fun. Whose parents wouldn’t love to chat with and see their kids and grandkids?
