Most probably had never considered the necessity for an off-site backup. A service like Carbonite could have saved them a lot of trouble.
Equally important is ease of use. Nothing sinks good intentions like a hair-pulling problem. I know people who use Windows Backup. But I don’t know very many. It just isn’t that user-friendly.
Other backup programs are available. But, in my experience, none of them are easy to use, either.
Of course, you could just copy your personal files every night. For instance, you could keep everything under My Documents. Then, copy that folder to the hard drive. That needs to be done regularly—preferably, every night.
You could, but you won’t. Oh, people start with the best of intentions. But it doesn’t take long to fall off the wagon. If it’s not automatic, it won’t be done.
