Q. Hello fellow Jersey Girl. Please help me with this problem and warn others. I got a pop-up about XP Antivirus 2009. This sneaky virus/spyware tries to look like Windows. It uses the Windows security shield icon but with slight differences.
I felt like there was something different so I looked for more details. At the bottom of another window it even had a copywrite symbol and windows after it. I initially said yes to scan, but after I did, the real Windows screen popped up and asked if I knew the source. I hit the buttons so quick, it was too late.
I now have a continual pop-up saying "your system has recovered from a serious error" and do I want to contact Microsoft. I can't get rid of this; it won't send a message, either.
I have installed AVG and Spybot and run scans. Spybot found Fraud XP Antivirus and I deleted it. Now I have the same problem but with new names. It also has recognized that I installed AVG. It asks me if I want to run "AVg Scan" (notice the small "g"). I followed your instructions for system restore. It apparently attacked there, too. I now have a black screen or can't get past the start menu. Please help!
