How secure is MySpace? It appears as if we are about to find out! The "month of bugs" trend continues with the recently announced MOMBY (Month of MySpace Bugs, Yuss!). Scheduled for April, MOMBY follows similar projects such as the Month of Apple Bugs.
For those who missed it, the Month of Apple Bugs (January 2007) revealed an unaddressed security flaw in OS X each day for one month. The project made clear that Mac owners are not immune to computer security threats. MOBMY will likewise attempt to shed light on flaws in MySpace.
This is big news for home computers everywhere, especially for families. Host to over 100 million member profiles, MySpace is a massive presence on the Internet. The site attracts enough visitors to rank it as popular as Yahoo! and Google. Most of the site's members are teens or twenty-somethings.
MySpace's high concentration of young people has also been one of the site's problems. For example, MySpace tends to attract sex predators. Hackers and unethical advertisers also abuse the site to prey on its inexperienced population. I've talked about the false sense of security that MySpace provides kids.
