Q. I spoke with you on your show a few weeks back about keeping my passwords in a spreadsheet on my computer. Did I understand correctly that I should NOT save my passwords on my computer and instead should use a password manager like LastPass? I forgot to ask what happens if the password site goes down. I'm afraid of losing my information. Please refresh my memory on what you recommend. Thank you! - Jane from Scarborough, ME, listens to my national radio show with her Kim's Club membership.
A. Hello again, Jane. I do remember talking to you about keeping your passwords safe. It sounds like we need to revisit my instructions.
I did say not to store your passwords on your computer. However, I also said NOT to store them with an online service. Putting them online makes them vulnerable to interception by hackers. Plus, if the service goes down, as you suggested, you'd be locked out of your accounts.
My best recommendation for keeping your passwords safe is to memorize them. I know that sounds difficult, but trust me, I have a method that works great. The passwords will even be strong enough to keep out hackers.
