Free alternatives to popular paid software

These days every penny counts. That's why budget desktops and budget laptops are in such high demand.

Unfortunately, many essential programs aren't budget-friendly. You might spend more on software than you spent on the computer!

Thankfully, modern computer users have access to open-source software. These programs can save you hundreds of dollars over their commercial counterparts.

In most cases, you won't even miss any features. However, you'll see a huge difference in your checking account!

Microsoft Office has been the productivity workhorse for business, home and student users for more than 20 years. The more expensive versions include Outlook and Microsoft Publisher in addition to Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Instead, use LibreOffice. It contains a word processor, spreadsheet program, presentation software and much more. Even better, it can open and save Microsoft Office documents.

If you need a replacement for Microsoft Publisher or Adobe InDesign look at Scribus. This free tool is great for creating brochures, magazines and newsletters.
