Q. I have an Olympus C-750 digital camera. I take a lot of pictures of my grandchildren. They move around a lot. There is a terrible lag time between when I push down the button and when the actual picture is taken. Any movement causes blur. Also, most of my pictures in low light are blurry. I had a film camera and could adjust it with shutter speed and f stops. This is an expensive camera, and it just doesn't work well. Does your digital photography book address my problems?
A. I have never used this camera, so I can't speak from personal experience. But Ed here at Komando headquarters told me that he has an Olympus C-740, which is similar.
Ed said that among digital cameras, Olympus' menus stand out for their sheer complication. So, they’re not easy to use. That might be part of your problem.
Let's start with shutter lag. That's the time it takes between pressing the button and actually taking the picture. This is a problem with most digital cameras. They just are not as fast as film cameras. And it’s hard to get the kids to stop moving when you want to take a picture.
With this camera, it appears that shutter lag is not bad at fast shutter speeds. At slower speeds, it apparently becomes more of a problem.
