One thing you must do right now in response to the Russian hack

In case you missed it, the big news of the week is a data breach by CyberVor, a gang of Russian hackers. Yes, it's as bad as it sounds. The group has stolen 1.2 billion usernames and passwords, along with 540 million email addresses across 420,000 sites, according to Hold Security.

However, I've gotten lots of questions asking for more detail on a specific suggestion I made for staying safe. So, here it is so you can stay safe.

Note: This one security need-to-know is something you should know anyway, even if your data hasn't been stolen in a breach.
