When I say the phrase, "rat's nest," what comes to mind? I'm betting the area behind your computer or home entertainment center is one of the first things.

You probably have cables upon cables crammed into a small area, looping, twisting and tangling. When you have to do anything back there, it feels like an impossible puzzle to solve.

I've been in more than my share of cable rat's nests so I know how frustrating they are, and how easily they happen. Even Macs, which look so clutter-free in the store, somehow sprout cables for power, the keyboard, the mouse, speakers, external drives and plenty of other things.

If you've had it up to here with cable mess, don't worry; I have some solutions. The best part is that most of these you can do for free.

Before I begin, I should acknowledge there are plenty of products on the market for organizing cables. However, most of them are just fancy versions of the  low-cost office supplies and other things you probably have lying around the house.

So, give my suggestions a try first and see what works for you. If you want you can upgrade to a fancier version - but you might not need to.
