Q. Hi, Kim. My husband and I love your show. We have a 3 year old who likes to play around on our laptops and smartphones. For Christmas, we’re trying to decide whether to get him a children’s learning tablet, such as the LeapFrog LeapPad or the VTech InnoTab. What do you think?

Q. Hello, Kim. Grandma wants to give our 4- and 6-year-old kids their own iPods for Christmas. They already love playing with her iPhone and iPad. My wife and I are wondering if that’s such a good idea. We’ve been looking at the VTech InnoTab and the LeapFrog LeapPad. Are these good learning tools?

A. Thanks for the great questions – and thanks for being such fans of the show. Your kids are at such cute ages. I’ll bet they can hardly wait for Santa this year!
As long-time listeners, you probably know I’m not a big fan of immersing young children in technology. I believe children ages 3 to 6 should be playing with their friends outside, building snow forts and sledding down hills. Indoors, they should be playing with rubber balls, building blocks, clay and crayons.
