If you run a small business, you're always looking for ways to attract visitors to your website. You could be after people to buy your company's products through your online store or who need information about your products or services. Maybe you want to attract business leaders in your industry, investors, or potential employees.

The big obstacle that every business owner confronts is how to do it. When it comes to driving traffic to your website, you probably know the basics. You know how to use SEO keywords, so search engines like Google bump up your company in their rankings. You know that you have to have compelling content on the site, and refresh it often. However, there's one surefire way to drive traffic that you're probably under-utilizing.

We're talking about email. Last year, Forbes ranked email as the No. 5 way to drive traffic to your site, out of its 39 "actionable" steps. "[I]ncluding a link or two back to your blog posts can considerably increase traffic, leads and sales," according to Forbes.

Plus, 20% of marketers say their primary revenue source is the result of their email efforts, according to Ashley Ward, CEO of online marketing company Madhouse Matters. She says: "Each email ... is crafted to fit your company’s brand and style and optimized to increase opens, clicks, and online sales."

That sounds great, but you're probably thinking that you're already communicating by email, and you try to include a link to your site. However, you could still be missing a bet.
