Set up a filter in MailWasher
1. Press the "Add" button in the "Blacklist/friends list" tab and you can either enter a whole address or...

2. Use a wildcard to enter anyone, say for example, all emails from the same company as your friend. eg. *@mailwasher.net would let anyone from MailWasher.net be entered as your friend, and ????@mailwasher.net would let anyone with a four letter name who works at MailWasher be entered as your friend.

3. You can bring up another column on the main screen which will be labeled "friends" - do this by going to Tools, Options, General tab and ticking the "Friends list" option in the Column Order box. This makes it easy to "tick" your friends as they send you emails.

Visit the MailWasher FAQ for additional set-up information.

Set up a filter in POPFile
For each type of mail you want classified you need to setup a bucket. A bucket is just what it sounds like - it's one of any number of folders that your email can be classified into. You can separate your work, personal, and junk mail, filter between a dozen projects that you get email about, or just filter spam from non-spam. It's up to you.

If you've just installed POPFile and you're looking at the web interface for the first time, you'll either be looking at a blank "History" or "Buckets" page. You need to start on the "Buckets" page so click on the "Buckets" tab at the top of the interface if you aren't already there.

To set up your buckets, let's assume that you want three buckets: work, personal and spam. A little way down the "Buckets" page, there's a "Maintenance" tab, with a box labelled "Create bucket with name:". Create each bucket in turn - remember, tailor them to whatever you want - spam and real, or work, home and spam - or one for each of your projects.

Visit the POPFile FAQ for additional set-up information.

Set up a filter in Spamato
Spamato configuration depends on your mail client. Visit the Spamato installation guide for set-up information.

Set up a filter in SpamBayes
SpamBayes configuration depends on your mail client. Visit the SpamBayes FAQ for additional set-up information.

I can't read the newsletters on my cell phone.
To give you the best looking newsletter we can, we use HTML features like tables. Many email programs on cell phones or other non-computer devices can't display this type of formatting, even though they may be able to display some HTML formatting, like bold or colors.

Check with the provider of your cell service. The provider may have an upgrade. Otherwise, you will not be able to read the HTML newsletters in your email program.

However, it is possible that your browser can read the HTML. To test that, try subscribing to the newsletters through a Web email service, such as Yahoo! or MSN.

Strange characters showing up in newsletters.
The code you are seeing (like ’) is the most modern form of Hyper Text Markup Language, which is used to construct our newsletters. It is not displaying properly because your email or Web browser program is obsolete. Also, be sure that you have all Windows updates.

Most email programs are free. That is also true of browsers. You can solve this problem by downloading and installing the latest versions.

Using old software is dangerous. There are many threats on the Internet that take advantage of flaws in obsolete programs. So you will be doing yourself a favor by updating to the latest software.

Firefox is my Web browser. But links open in IE.
You may have improper settings. There are a couple things you can do:

1) Check your program defaults. Click Start>>Control Panel. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. On the left, click Set Program Access and Defaults.

You will find three choices. Select the Custom option. The first section shows you default Web browsers. Select your default Web browser and uncheck the other boxes.

2) Change your File Type associations. Click Start>>Control Panel (for Windows ME and 98 users, Start>>Settings>>Control Panel). Double-click Folder Options. Select the File Types tab. Make sure the following File Types are associated with your default Web browser:

HTM
HTML
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol

To change an association, click the File Type to highlight it. Click Change. Highlight the correct program. Click the box next to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file." Click OK. If the Change button is grayed out, click the Advanced button. On the Edit File Type window, click the Edit button and then the Browse button and locate and select your default Web browser. Then click the OK buttons to save your changes.

I signed up for your newsletters, but have not received them.
When you sign up for my newsletters, you are automatically sent an email to confirm your subscription. You must click on the link inside that email to confirm. If you cannot click on the link, highlight it. Depress Ctrl and click C to copy it. Then click on your address bar. Depress Ctrl and click V to paste it. Click Go or Enter. Once you are confirmed, your newsletters will start on the next sending cycle.

I want to add/cancel a newsletter subscription.
Kim's Club members: You must first sign into your account. Then click on Newsletter Preferences. Check the newsletters you want to receive and click SAVE CHANGES. If you wish to cancel a newsletter, uncheck the newsletter you DO NOT want and click SAVE CHANGES.

Not a Kim's Club member?: Click on Free newsletters. Under Manage newsletters, click on Change your newsletters. Enter your subscribed email address and click NEXT. Check the newsletters you want to receive and click UPDATE in Step 3. If you wish to remove any newsletter, uncheck the newsletter you DO NOT want and click UPDATE in Step 3.

My newsletters suddenly stopped. Why?
Many things could have happened. Your ISP could have adjusted its spam filters. Or it could be experiencing mail problems. Try these steps:

  1. Be sure the newsletters are not being blocked by spam filters on your computer. The newsletters could be in your spam, bulk, trash, or junk mail folders. If so, set up a rule to route them to your inbox or another folder. Yahoo users: Disable SpamGuard and wait for the next sending cycle. If the newsletters appear, establish a filter rule and re-enable SpamGuard.
  2. Ask your ISP if its spam filters are blocking the newsletters. Ask if the newsletters can be added to any protected lists. Also ask if there have been mail server problems with your account.
  3. Be sure you are on the subscriber list. Click "Get Free Newsletters" on the navigation bar on any page in my Web site. Click Change Your newsletters. Enter your email address and click NEXT. Newsletters to which you are subscribed will be checked. If necessary, check the newsletters you are not receiving. Click UPDATE. You will receive a confirmation email. You must click the link to verify your subscription. If the link does not work, copy and paste it into your Web browser's address bar.
  4. If the above does not work, contact List Support.

Why do I keep getting subscribed when I enter your sweepstakes?
Every time you enter any of Kim's Sweepstakes your email address will be subscribed to all of the newsletters. You may unsubscribe at any time, but if you enter again (even for the same sweepstakes) your email address will be added again.

Subscribing to all of the newsletters is a requirement for entering the sweepstakes, and is detailed in the rules for each sweepstakes.

How do I stop getting duplicates of your newsletters?
There are several possible solutions:

  1. You might be signed up under multiple email addresses. To check, review the TO: field of each newsletter. If there are different addresses, unsubscribe the extras here.
  2. Mail filter rules may be creating multiple copies of the newsletters. Review your rules.
  3. Your mail server may cause the multiple copies. The server might not recognize that the newsletters have downloaded. It could download the newsletters repeatedly. Ask your ISP to check your account and its mail servers.
  4. If a Web hosting service maintains your email, it might create duplicates. This happens if the service does not allow you to delete downloaded email automatically. Instead, it stays on the server. That email can be downloaded repeatedly. To resolve this, delete the email from the server after each download. Or simply read the email on the server, rather than downloading it.
  5. You could be mistaking different newsletters for the same one. Kim has six newsletters. The Weekly Newsletter is dispatched on Saturday. The Cool Site of the Day and Download of the Day go out every day. The News of the Day is published Monday through Friday, as is the Tip of the Day, with a Tips wrap-up sent on Sunday. If you want to cancel an newsletters, click Change Your newsletters. Enter your email address and click NEXT. Uncheck the newsletter you no longer want and click UPDATE.
  6. If the above does not resolve your problem, please contact List Support.
