Audacity should do the trick. Once correctly configured you can record what you hear from your speakers. You can save the recording as an Mp3 and burn to CD. Also, download an unzipped copy of the required lame_enc.dll here. Click on the blue "here" beside #1.
If you decide to give it a try, download and install the Stable Version for Windows 1.2.6, post back and we can help with the set up.
Also post your Operating System. It makes a difference in the set up.

If you can't get the beta version to work you may have to download the stable version.
In Audacity click on Edit > Preferences > File Formats. Look at the bottom for MP3 Export Setup. Under that look for MP3 Library Version. If it has Lame v3.98 or any version of Lame you should be OK.
If nothing is there download the Lame Encoder from the link above. Save it someplace where it won't be disturbed because Audacity needs the file each time you save a file. Go back to Edit > Preferences > File Formats and click on Find Library. Navigate to the location where you saved the Lame Encoder file and install Lame.
In Vista go to Control Panel > Sound. Click on the Recording Tab. Look for Stereo Mix. If you see it make sure it is enabled. If you don't see it R click on a blank spot in the window and click on Show Disabled Devices. Stereo Mix should now appear. Again, make sure it is enabled Apply > OK.
In Audacity click on click on Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O. Make sure under Recording > Channels: 2(Stereo) is selected. Beside Device select Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input. Under Playback select Microsoft Sound Mapper - Output.
In Vista go to your Audio Manager and make sure the recording volume for Stereo Mix or Aux. is turned to about 65%.
If all is well you should now be able to click on the recording button in Audacity and record what you hear coming from your speakers.
Record what you want and when finished in Audacity click on File > Export as MP3. Give the recording a name and save it where you want.

Chris; Very good info.sounds like this will work.I'm going to give it a try. I'd like to let you know what the form over at Audacity said,on being able to record Live Streaming on your computer.They said;
This process chances a lot depending on what kind of computer you have and some machines make this very difficult.
This nest part is from an article,from Audacity help directory.
Recording audio playing on the computer
Note: Generally, it is not the best policy to convert audio files to different formats or extract audio from CDs and DVDs by recording them as they play. Recording off the sound card is a relatively inexact and lossy process, because it usually involves converting a digital source to analogue in order to play it, then back to digital when it enters the recording software. The quality of the result will depend amongst other things on the quality of your sound card's digital to analogue and analogue to digital converters.
Thanks so much;

Audacity is correct about getting it to work on some computers. Took me about an hour to get it to work with Win 7. The sound card is what makes the difference.
As far as the recording of live streaming goes, unless you have ears like an eagle (or is that eyes like an eagle), anyway, the quality should be good enough. I've recorded lots of stuff and can't tell the difference from the original.
If all you need is the audio of a football game broadcast there shouldn't be a problem as to the quality, provided it is understandable to start with.

WOW an hour.how do i know if my computer has the right sound card? then if it does not!one other thing.what would you estimate on how long a radio station would keep a Live Stream program on file? does it go on a file? I think this is my sound card integrated NIC card. or integrated5.1 channel audio. thanks

Yea, that was exceedingly fast. Sometimes it can take a day or two.
There's no way to predict how your sound card will respond. It's trial and error. There are several settings you play with until you get it to work. And then, no guarantees.
If you plan on using Audacity you need to go ahead and get it set up. It works like a champ after things are correctly configured.
As far as your questions about the radio station, I haven't a clue.
