| I am searching for a new printer. I don't want to spend a lot of money but I do want a reliable, efficient product. I really do not need the all-in-one (scanner, copier, etc.). I just want a printer that will last for a reasonable amount of time and won't cost a ton to buy new ink. Any suggestions? Thanks, JANDJTOGETHER |

There is no such beast as CHEAP INK! At $8,000.00 a gallon, no matter what brand, the best way to save is NOT TO PRINT! CANON and EPSON are the top two brands. Get one that has INDIVIDUAL color ink carts. You WILL save money over the one cart-three colors unit, as you will have to replace only the individual color cart that runs out and not have to throw away a cart that still has ink in it because ONE of the colors ran out.

Print a lot! and I don't want to spend a lot of money are mutually exclusive parameters.
I know some folks here will disagree, but I like HPs. I have had a rather expensive at the time ($400) HP G85 All in one that I have had for the last 10 years. still works with Vista and Win 7. I have had an HP Photosmart 8250 since it first came out in August 2005 Paid $285 for it and it came down soon after that, but it has been a work horse for me. 6-cartridge ink is cheap $10 ea ($20 for a larger Black) and you only need one out of 6 at a time.
Where printers are concerned cheaper is not always the most economical. Xhi The Computer Whisperer Never start vast projects with half-vast ideas |

I settled on a Canon Pixma MX700. It has a 4-cart system (3 color, 1 LARGE black), but it's an all-in-one. Cost was $130.00, which includes the first set of ink carts. Print quality is very good.
