SeaMonkey has completely disappeared from our desktop. My husband was printing an email and it wouldn't print, so he xd out of printing and also SeaMonkey. When he tried to reopen SeaMonkey it wouldn't open. I checked in Control Panel and it lists it but then in the size column, there is nothing.
I'm a sentimental old lady and keep all the special emails from family and friends. Those emails contain all the history of our son's romance, engagement, marriage, and our new grandbaby. I hope someone can help!!

I don't know where you find SeaMonkey in Control Panel, but it should be found at in My Computer-> C:\Program Files\Mozilla.org\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe you should be able to click on that file and SeaMonkey will come up. If it does then right click on SeaMonkey.exe and choose Create Shortcut. Then drag the shortcut to the desktop. All is well.

If SeaMonkey does not come up try to find the Mail Store folder. Mine is located at C:\Documents and Settings\Xhi\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\ctmilbaq.default\Mail\pop.secureserver.net

NB. The Application Data folder and perhaps others are hidden in the system. Go to Control Panel-> Folder Options -> View Tab and make sure the "Show hidden Files and Folders button is selected. Hit apply if necessary.

The items in red will be unique to your computer.
Xhi = Your user name.
pop.secureserver.net = your pop3 server name.
If there are folders there like Inbox, Inbox.msf etc. Those should be your mail folders where your mail is.

If you find these then I would back them up by copying the whole Mail folder to another location. Hopefully your mail will be there.

After you do the above check back for further help.

You did not say, but the above assumed a Windows XP operating system.

Thanks Xhi. Still no go. I got to SeaMonkey and opened that. There were three files that resembled what you mentioned. One was SeaMoney (the logo). That won't open. One was Seamonkey Setup 2.0. Opened that and got a notice that the file was corrupt.

Did I tell you that yesterday I responded to a Seamonkey request to update to 2.0. I did that but then got an error message that file was corrupt. I did nothing more and continued to use Seamonkey until today.

Yes, I'm using XP Home.

There was one more icon and I was afraid to use it for fear I'd lose all hope of recovery. But just a moment ago I opened it and did what you said and as I type it is installing.

HOORAY!! Xhi, you are a miracle man or woman (which is it?). It all came back--all the emails in the inbox, in saved folders, and the addresses. No way I can thank you enough. Even the people at Mozillzine didn't come up with that. Their instructrions were so detailed that I threw up my hands and planned to take it to a computer repair person,

Do you know of a way to save emails? I have an external hard drive and also a portable one but they never show up on that? Is there a way or is that in your detailed instructions after the inital instruction?

Should I delete the icon seamonkey 2.0 that said it was corrupt? And then how can I get the update without getting a corrupt one again?
Thank you again from the bottom of this sentimental old lady's heart (I treasure those emails that I have saved from my family).

I had trouble also with the update to 2.0 which I did before answering your queery above. I never use SeaMonkey, but I have it around to answer questions like yours, lol.

If you are going to back up your mail I indicated one way above. Now that you have SeaMonkey back you can get the exact name of the folder by going to Edit->Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings... Under Local Folders then Local Directory: you will find the name of where your mail is actually stored. Click in that box and right click->click Select All. Once highlighted then right click -> Click copy.

Go to Start->Run and paste in that big long file string click o.k. The folder4 will come up. That is the mail items you need to back up.

However, I recommend that you back up the whole C:\Document and Settings directory which contains most of the personal things you need to back up.

As far as version 2.0 goes after your backup see if you can find the file Seamonkey setup 2.0.exe via the Search command. After you backup your current mail files try clicking on that. If it doesn't work go to the SeaMonkey site and download it again. It should install without problem, but do backup first. Or use Xhi's first Law, "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

Thanks again Xhi. I'll do those things.
The reason we have SeaMonkey for email is that when we switched from dial up to high speed, the tech from K-State that comes to the homes of retired profs decided that if he installed Thunderbird which we had been using and would still be using for newsletters, Kim, etc., that we would get confused as to which email client we were in. So he downloaded SeaMonkey for the new high speed address.

I don't need SeaMonkey as a browser since we use Firefox. I wouldn't mind mind using Thunderbird for both accounts--I don't think we would get confused, plus I wonder if Mozilla supports Seamonkey the way they do Thunderbird and Firefox.

So my question is, if I switched from SM to Thunderbird, could I keep the mail in my inbox and saved folders and addresses-- all the stuff you fought to help me keep?? Could they just slip out of SM and into TB and if so, would anything happen to the other TB at the original dialup address? Thanks for your expertise.
