I just wanted to say Kim's statement was right on about the furor caused by Limbaugh's choice of words. I am a listener of both and believe strongly in the first amendment. I'll not get into a political discussion on this forum. I just wanted to say to Kim, Well done!

I totally agree that the focus of much of the media on Mr. Limbaugh's words has totally deflected the debate from the heinous acts of the administration in attempting to impose their own version of religion on other religious institutions.

WHOA! CW. Since when does ANY Religious organization have the right to tell ANYONE what they can and cannot do or use. THIS IS AMERICA, and as such no one can control us (which is exactly why the GOP is self-destructing). Imposing the Admins religion?? I think not. Restoring Women's FREEDOMS is what they're doing (protecting us from the GOP). I'm NOT a Democrat, but the way the GOP has self-destructed (as well as the Libertarians) we need a leader that will stand up to those idiots.

If, President Ford said it he was quoting President Thomas Jefferson,I believe that is his quote.I think I first heard or read it years before Gerald Ford became President or even Senator.

Isn't it strange how people, especially the news media, starts talking/harping about the First Amendment when someone "slurs" or "defames" someone or says something they shouldn't on tv or radio.
I don't listen to Radio talk shows, (or watch TV talk shows), so I don't know what Mr. Limbaugh said, But someone wrote that he called a young lady an "Ugly Whore." If he said that, The First Amendment does not give him the right to say it. And he was wrong in saying it. I have seen pictures of her and she is not ugly.

Someone said "If it wasn't for the Second Amendment the other Amendments wouldn't exist."

One small correction please. Gerald Ford was Speaker of the House not a Senator. He became Vice President when Rockefeller resigned and President When Nixon resigned.

Lenny, We both forgot to take our memory pill, old age sucks!!!
If my memory serves me right, without having to take a pill, Gerald Ford became Vice President when Spiro Agnew resigned. Rockfeller was Vice President to President Ford.

Seadog,

I enjoyed the exchange and then I had to check to see who said the quote being discussed. I'm 70 today and didn't have any memory pills so went to the Jefferson Encyclopedia http://www.monticello.org/site/jefferson/government-big-enough-to-give-you-everything-you-wantquotation

The following statement, or variations thereof, is often attributed to Thomas Jefferson:

"A government big enough to give you everything you need, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have...."

We have never found such a statement in Jefferson's writings. As far as we know, this statement actually originates with Gerald R. Ford, who said, "A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have," in an address to a joint session of Congress on August 12, 1974.[1]

We are quite a ways off my original post, but I guess since this in the Water Cooler forum it's allowed. Thanks to you and Lenny for your service.

Bill
