| I purchased Registry Mechanic ( and renew my licence every year) to keep my computer registry in top shape. My friend had a lot of problems with an install of IE8 (lots of incompatibility issues and slow running pc) so her friend told her to install a freeware program called "Advance System Care". Has anyone heard of this program and is it any good? If it is so good, why should I keep Registry Mechanic at $30 per year? |

Well, thats a good question......I have used ASC for at least a couple of years now and like it. Recently, Leo Notenboom (ask Leo) recommended ASC to clean PCs.
With all of that said, the less aggressive a registry cleaner is, the less likely it is to removed an entry that you need. Ccleaner and Eusing Registry cleaner seem to pretty good as well as safe cleaners....to me anyway.
Other folks here on the boards all have their favorites.
I wouldn't overuse any of the registry cleaners .... or at least back up the registry prior to using anything other than ccleaner...just to be safe.
I have not purchased a cleaner or a registry cleaner for years.

I have not used ASC, but for free I would sure try it. I have stuck by CCleaner and/or Glary Registry Cleaner for many years now and they have been quite sufficient. Respectfully Submitted Xhi The Computer Whisperer Never start vast projects with half-vast ideas |

None of us recommend registry mechanic. I have used glary registry cleaner and ccleaner with much better success, and they are both free. My daughter used advanced system care for a while, but did away with it when she had problems with IE not working right.
She decided to listen to mom after finding out for herself.

Years ago I tried Registry Mechanic but I did away with it when I got all sorts of problems.
I will stick by Ccleaner and Eusing Registry Cleaner and Glary Utilities. They are all FREE too. and safe.

Thank you everyone for your replies to my question re registry cleaners. I did a little research and one sight says that PC Health Advisor is the best, followed by RegClean. Another site says that FixCleaner is the best followed by RegCure, RegDefence, and 4th is Regclean. Who am I to believe? Registry Mechanic was promoted by Kim Komando a few years ago - what happened to that recommendation? |

| Actually Registry Mechanic hasn't been recommended by Kim, although they advertised on her show, and haven't even been an advertiser for about 3 years now. |

Remember that none of the Google ads on this site, as pretty as they may be, are not recommended specifically by Kim. Respectfully Submitted Xhi The Computer Whisperer Never start vast projects with half-vast ideas |
