I am useing Windows XP Home Edition. I recently installed a new hard drive to get more memory (500 GB). I used the Retrospect backup I had on my Maxtor One Touch external drive to restore my files and settings. Everything seems to be normal except when I try to install Windows Updates they fail to install and I get the message "The Windows Installer could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in the safe mode or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your personel for assitance". How can I fix this problem and how do I contact my support personel?
You cannot use any browser except IE for over-the-net updates, but you CAN use Firefox (or another browser) if you just DOWNLOAD the updates to your PC for manual installs. Somehow, Retrospect corrupted your version of Windows Installer. Go to Microsofts site for instructions and to download the latest version.
