Reading one of Kims columns she stated that you need a wdd 1.0 drive to run windows 7, what is that? Thank you all for your help on my previous questions.

Major416, Welcome to Kim's Message Board

WDD 1.0 refers to Weapons of Disastrous Destruction and were hidden in Seria in 2002.

Actually what Kim said in her Tip Buying a Windows 7 compatible machine was

quote:
You'll need a 1 GHz processor or faster. That's for both 32- and 64-bit versions. This won't be a problem. Additionally, you'll need DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.

Notice the R on the end of the word drive. It is not referring to a disk drive, but a piece of graphics software known as a driver.

What Kim was talking about was that if you are buying a new computer to run Windows 7 be sure it has the capability of having a graphics driver WDDM 1.0 or higher.

This is not a requirement for Windows 7, but there will be features of Windows 7 that you will not be able to use unless you have a graphics driver WDDM 1.0 capable.

This is not a requirement to run Windows 7 on an older computer, but may be able to be updated via a simple download if the graphics will support it.

Accorting to Wikipedia
quote:
Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM, also WVDDM) is the graphic driver architecture for video card drivers running Microsoft Windows versions beginning with Windows Vista. WDDM provides the functionality required to render the desktop and applications using Desktop Window Manager, a compositing window manager running on top of Direct3D 9.0Ex. It also provides device driver interfaces required by Direct3D 10 runtime.

Thank you for the information. I am learning more about the computer software side and it gets kind of confusing at times.

major416,

Just ignore XHI's sarcastic remarks about WDD and let it go in one ear and out the other. He does me that way a lot too.
