Getting your children a cell phone is easy. Controlling what they do with it is a different story. Kids need limits. Without them, they’ll drain your wallet.
A good talk about limits can go a long way. But it would be nice to have a way of enforcing those limits. Thankfully, cellular providers have plans and services parents will love.
AT&T: Smart Limits for Wireless can be added to any family plan. You can control their Web browsing and messaging. Set any monthly limit you’d like. You can also block inappropriate content online.
You can’t limit the number of minutes they use per month. But you can decide what time of day their phone can be used. For example, you could block outgoing calls during school. They’ll still be able to receive calls. And they can still call 911 in an emergency.
Smart Limits for Wireless costs $4.99 per month per line.
AT&T also provides the FamilyMap service. It uses a phone’s built-in GPS to track your children. You can see where they are from your phone or PC. You can request a location update at any time. Or you can schedule updates for specific times. You’ll know if they made it to after-school activities on time.
