Choose a digital camera for your children

12/1/2007

Has your child caught the digital bug? Children pick up electronic gear at an early age. This Christmas, many kids are asking for digital cameras.

Children aren't always careful with their things. So don't think about buying something expensive. But don't just grab a cheap generic camera, either. It may not fit young hands properly. You need a camera designed for children.

I found five that fit the bill. These cameras feature simple controls and unique kid-friendly options. Their toy-like design will make your children want to show them off.

Fisher Price Kid-Tough Digital Camera

Fisher Price makes a 1.3-megapixel camera. It comes in blue or pink.

The camera was built for rough handling. It can be dropped without damage. It also has large handles on both sides for a solid grip.

The Kid-Tough has a 1.6-inch LCD screen, built-in flash and large buttons. You'll get 8 megabytes of memory. You can buy an SD memory card to boost the capacity.

It includes a USB cable to download pictures. This camera runs around $70.

Polaroid Pixie

Polaroid offers the 3-megapixel Pixie in pink and blue. It has large kid-friendly controls. It also has a 2.4-inch LCD screen to view stored pictures.
