Last Christmas, one of the hottest selling toys was a blast from the past. The NES Classic Edition, a miniaturized version of the vintage gaming console that was released in 1983, flew off the shelves. And now that the replica is being discontinued, avid gamers are scurrying to buy the remaining units.

Don't worry if you didn't get your hands on one. You can still relive the 1980s by playing other classic games. And unlike the NES, you can play for free!

The Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library, recently released 40 emulators that can make your computer mimic old Apple Programs. These games and applications were originally released between 1984 and 1989.

When you click on a program, it takes just a few seconds for the program's components to download to your web browser. Then a window pops up and it's black and white just like an old Macintosh computer's desktop. Then just click the application's icon and start playing.

Here's a screenshot of Space Invaders. You can play Frogger and Pyramid of Peril too.

You can also use old applications like MacPaint (pictured below) and MacWrite. You can view entire operating systems, too.

The Internet Archive has so much more than old video games and applications. According to their site, their collection includes over 150 billion webpages, about 240,000 movies, over 500,000 audio items (including over 70,000 live concerts), over 1,800,000 texts, 1,600 educational items, and over 30,000 software items.

P.S. If you still own the original copies of classic 1980s video games, they could be worth some money
