Digital SLR owners should have the option of shooting in RAW format. This is the way to go!
RAW format gives you more control when editing your photos. You can adjust white balance and exposure. You can also eke out more detail.
The overall quality of your photos will be better, too. You’re processing them on your computer. It is much more powerful than your camera.
There is a problem with RAW files. You’ll need special software like Adobe Lightroom to process them. It can run hundreds of dollars.
Some higher-end cameras provide software for editing RAW files. Other cameras don’t offer any tools. Or, the tools may be somewhat limited.
Fortunately, you can get a free, full-featured RAW editor. RawTherapee has the same features you’ll find in pricey programs. It is a must for those serious about photography!
Keep in mind that RAW formats vary among manufacturers. Also, different models can have different formats.
