Paint programs are a great way for kids to exercise their creativity. But sophisticated programs like Photoshop may be just too much. Even I can get lost in all its features.
Kids don't have to be computer pros to start making digital art. I've discovered a simple paint program designed especially for young artists. The kids don't even have to know their way around Windows.
It's called Tux Paint. It features large buttons bearing both icons and labels. The screen stays uncluttered, showing only one tool set at a time. Saving is done in one click without dealing with folders and file names.
Opening of files is also simple. Instead of browsing through Windows' folders, children choose from small previews of their saved drawings.
Tux Paint comes with a separate configuration tool for parental control. For example, it can be used to limit or disable printing. It can also control where your children's artwork is saved. Otherwise, Tux Paint saves drawings in an obscure location.
