It's no secret your computer uses electricity. It isn't a lot on daily basis, but over time it can add quite a bit to your power bill.

The obvious solution is to turn your computer off when you aren't around. Don't worry; that isn't bad for it. If you don't believe me, I have an entire tip on the subject.

Or you could put your computer in a low-power Sleep or Hibernation mode. Click here to learn more about using these.

There are times, however, when you want to leave it on for a while. It might be downloading a file or installing updates. You want it to finish, but you can't hang around to turn it off afterward.

I've got just the thing. These downloads turn off your computer on a set schedule or after it completes a task.

Sinvise - This slick timer lets you set a schedule to shut down, restart, or hibernate your computer. So you can shut your computer down automatically at night if you forget or after it installs updates.

Macs - Apple users, I've got you covered too. Macs have a built-in timer feature you can use. Just go to System Preferences, select Energy Saver and then choose Schedule. You can set sleep times, wake times and more.

Caffeine - Sometimes you want your computer to stay awake no matter what, like when you're watching a movie. Much like caffeine for people, this program does just that. It can prevent your computer going to sleep or starting the screensaver.
