Did one of your friends post something outrageous on Facebook? Or maybe you saw a funny comment online or got an error message you want to save for tech support.

Whatever the reason, when you want to save that particular image, you need the right tool for the job. You can always use the traditional method of pressing the PrtScn (Print Screen) button on your keyboard and pasting it into MS Paint or another graphics program.

But there are a few things that aren't so great about doing it that way. You have to take a picture of the entire screen or program window (ALT + Print Screen). You can't just capture a small part of your screen.

Plus, it takes a few steps. Why not take a screen capture of the size you want and save it in one step?

You can do exactly that using Greenshot. This free download lets you take screenshots with the familiar Print Screen button, but Greenshot doesn't stop there.

Using the Print Screen button no longer captures the entire screen. It lets you drag a box around a custom area instead. Or you can still capture a window or the whole screen too.

You can then save the screenshot, print it, copy to the clipboard or send it to Office, email, Flickr, Picasa and more. You'll be able to make notes, highlights or blur out parts of the photo using Greenshot as well.
