The Department of Energy has a site to help you out. It's got a wealth of tips on how to improve your home's energy efficiency, so you can save as much money as possible. There are also tips for people who live in apartments.
You can start by running an energy audit of your house. See how much energy you're using and possibly wasting with one of the site's many informative videos.
