Free weekend access to your family tree at Ancestry.com

My family's last name wasn't always Komando. The origins of my last name can be found in the long lines at Ellis Island. In fact, if things happened differently, the URL for this website might have been a lot harder for you to spell.

My grandparents went through Ellis Island in the 1920s and spoke no English. Our family name was much longer back then. My grandmother told me that the lines were long and it was hot. The clerk quickly wrote the first part of our last name and pushed them to the next line. Komando it was!

I'm happy that I know this interesting fact - and many more. I like to share them with my son, too, so he'll know more about where our ancestors came from. But, even if you don't have these types of stories, I encourage you to research and dig up facts about your family.

That's why I've found a website that'll help you do just that. Instead of scouring a bunch of websites and books for information, you can do all of your research in one place.
