Digital cameras for $300-$400

Are you looking to step up your photography skills? For a digital camera with quality features, look in the $300-400 price range.

Cameras in this range offer up to 12 megapixels of resolution. High resolution sets these cameras apart from less expensive models. You'll be able to achieve good quality prints at 11x14 and up.

Cameras in this range also provide more control over settings. Experienced photographers will appreciate the manual options. But, beginning photographers would probably never use these options.

These cameras will take better quality photos in low-light situations. Image stabilization is also a common feature. This is handy if your photographs frequently appear blurred.

Scene modes and color control options will be plentiful. You'll also find built-in photo-editing software. This allows you to make minor quick fixes to your photographs. You can also use the software for creative effect. However, the results won't be as good as those from desktop programs.

In the $300-$400 range, 3X or 4X optical zoom is common. But if you don't mind a bulkier camera, you'll find 18X optical zoom. You may not need this level of zooming power. This is especially true if you will mainly print 4x6 images. You can easily crop photos without decreasing picture quality at this size.
