Tablet PCs
Tablet PCs are versatile little computers. They run a special version of Windows XP, and you can write and tap on the screen with a special stylus. But the myriad choices can be confusing. So let me help you get on the right track.
Two varieties When you go shopping for a tablet PC, you'll see two varieties. First, there are slate models. These don't include a keyboard and are the rarer of the two.
The other type of tablet PC is called a convertible. It is essentially a notebook with a swivel screen. Previous models had detachable keyboards. However, I haven't seen one of these in some time.
The slate models tend to be lighter and easier to carry. They're good to take into the field. However, you may miss the keyboard. Of course, you can add a USB keyboard. But that's one more thing to carry.
Like I said, convertibles are like laptops. But they allow you to write on the screen. I've been using a Gateway convertible lately. I appreciate its versatility. But, I'm not on my feet all day toting it around. Convertibles can weigh more than six pounds, whereas slates typically weigh less than four.
