As cameras improve on mobile devices, there are more opportunities to take and share impressive photos. And there are plenty of apps that help you make the most of your pictures. Here’s a rundown of some of my favorites.
Camera+ ($1, iOS) – The default camera app for the iPhone is decent, but this app adds even more features. You can set exposures and focus separately, giving you more control over images. It includes a stabilizer and a timer.
Other settings allow you to use your flash as a steady fill light, and to superimpose a grid over your image so you can compose your shot before you snap that shutter.
Photoshop Touch ($10, Android) – Performing serious photo editing on a table or smartphone sounds like a dream. This app from Adobe can do it.
The Photoshop Touch interface will have you performing amazing edits and creating fantastic effects in no time. It is fully integrated with social networking sites so you can share your creations and view comments from within the app.
Snapseed (Free, iOS, Android) – This app is an easy-to-use photo editor with dozens of options. You can auto-correct problems in one tap, or manually tweak, rotate, straighten, crop and play with exposures.
It includes filters like Drama, Grunge and Tilt-Shift. Draw attention to the center of your photo by blurring the background. Add borders and you’re ready to share via email, Flickr, Facebook and Twitter, right from the app.
