My 7-year old son Ian is growing fast. He should be at the age where girls are “gross” and have “cooties.” Instead, he’s turning out to be quite the ladies’ man.
We picked up this book at a local bookstore the other day. It’s called “How to Talk to Girls.” It’s written by a 9-year old boy, much like Ian. It contains good advice like girls like boys who keep clean and don’t appear too desperate. Mothers at Ian’s school tell me Ian should have written it!
I’ve made sure to instill chivalry in Ian for sure. But he does the rest on his own!
He’ll often tell a girl with sincerity he thinks she is beautiful that day. Or if he has a compliment, he’ll offer it. I even witnessed him tell a girl who was going through some difficult times that he was “here to talk” if she needed him.
He has two girl friends in class that he even gets souvenirs for when we go on vacation. He got them each a keychain on our last trip.
Other mom’s in Ian’s class tell me their little girls make names for their dolls when they play together. Oftentimes, they’ll fight over who gets the Ian doll! In fact, girls at school even compete to carry his lunch!
I guess I’ll have to keep a short leash on this one!
